Aim of the competition
Hello,
The aim of this design competition is to award prizes for projects consisting of ideas for new products, focusing on vehicle interior, more specifically for doors, with innovations affecting their opening and closing lifetime and other uses. These new product ideas should be geared to facilitate user operation, simplifying the currently-existing systems, including new features, improving driver and passenger safety, modernising the appearance of the vehicle interior using new decoration techniques or including environmental improvements.
Registration is not required. Participate and enjoy!

I am inclined to think that this is the cheapest way to generate ideas for a car manufacturing company or a design studio.
Sorry to sound sarcastic… it happened to me already- before. In other words… twice burned ten times shy.

Hi Ehnriko,
Thanks for your feedback; we’re glad finally someone expresses his opinion in public.
We know many people have a poor opinion of this kind of competitions but here at Maier we are confident about having created some fair rules.
Of course we get ideas, but participants also win. The winner gets 1% of the total sales of the products including the design or other industrial or intellectual property rights contained in the prize-winning mechanisms or accessories produced industrially by any Maier Group company (see point number 10 of the rules), but even if you don’t win you get a chance to get your work published, which we believe is a good propaganda for any student or professional studio.
Thanks again and come on, cheer up!

Hi,
I’d like to say that the most interesting thing to me in this competition is focusing on a part of car. The subject of most international competitions is to design a complete exterior or interior and you know that some parts of cars are being less intentioned by designers. They mostly focus on main parts of the car and the other parts will get common designs just based on the design of main parts.
Focusing on the parts like doors will bring a lot of ideas which maybe no one already thought about.
About developing and manufacturing the ideas, as I saw in the website there will be only two prize-winning projects and “point number 10 of the rules” is only mentioning about these two projects, so it realizes that the other project will never be produced even if some of them are interesting, or Maier Design will select more than two projects for producing and will be fair with them too??
Good luck

Hi Ali,
Thanks for your post.
First of all, we’d like to clarify that winning the competition doesn’t necessarily imply getting the idea into production. The last decision belongs to carmakers.
Anyway, don’t worry, any participant (even a non winner one) would benefit of royalties as long as the project gets into production.
Cheers

Hi,
in case that a participant wants to enter with more than one idea, is he or she supposed to send everything in one single e-mail and in single files?
Muchas Gracias y saludos.

Hi Peter,
If you want to present more than one project we would suggest sending each one separately.
(Not necessarily, but sending everything together might create confusion, and we don’t want to spoil someone’s chances to win just because of a misunderstanding, do we?)
Good luck!

Hello,
Does the project have to be specifically into only the door handle, handgrip, speaker grille, and embellisher? Or can it also take part in other aspects of the door?

Hi Abdullah,
The proposals are to focus on those products. However, if you come up with something in which those products have been redesigned or integrated into the door panel in a new way, it should be OK. If you believe that what you’re thinking about it’s worth it, then go for it!.
Good luck!

Hello,
You mentioned in the competition rules that the final composition of the jury will be notified before the project presentation deadline, i.e. tomorrow.
Have you got any news?
Best regards, Lotta

Hi Lotta, sorry for taking so long to answer.
As posted before, we can confirm now that Jean Pierre Ploue and Jean Paul Bauchel will be among the members of the Jury. Although these two alone would make an excellent Jury, there are more members to come… we’ll keep you informed.
Cheers!
